There's nothing on the website to suggest that discounted business only gets 100% on Varig. Is it worth writing to the Aeroplan Centre to ask for the additional status miles? It will make the difference between qualifying early for Elite and not getting Elite status until next March.

C is Varig's full fare Business Class and definitely earns 125% status miles. If you were booked in D, which is discounted BC, I would give AP a call. I was booked in this class (within a RTW) a couple of times and always got the the bonus.

I know that Varig also uses booking codes R, J & Z for business class but I can not confirm if these earn 125% or only 100%.

Thanks. I don't have a telephone number to call them (all those 1-800 numbers don't work over here in Europe), so I guess I should send in copies of my boarding passes.

Call your local air canada sales office and they will have access to the info. I am not sure where you are in europe- the Italy number for Air Canada is 800919091 and is a toll free number anywhere in Italy.

You can call Aeroplan free of charge via [Skype] from anywhere in the world -- just enter: +1 800 361-5373

Info from AE

Thanks to FlyerGoldII and SH and all that posted.
I called Aeroplan and was told that:
AC Q fare = LH Q V= BMI QV
AC L fare = LH W = BMI W
AC V fare = LH H Q = BMI Q

Then can anyone help if it is a UA codeshare flight with AC555. I'm booked on V class on United. So does this fare earn miles? Tango Plus fare?

Since Tango doesn't exist anymore except for LAS and Florida destinations, this is now a moot (a good thing!) question as you can't have anything map to Tango, thus 100% status miles.

The UA/AC transborder city-pair fare mapping to Tango issue is "almost" a thing of the past :)

TAngo fares are no more? Oh good. But still wondering, what does a UA V equate to in AC's Aeroplan?

Cos I called up SQ KF yesterday, and was told that my flight AC555/UA8456 does not earn ANY miles (not on list of eligible codeshares), even though on UA, my fare basis it VRP14CNX is eligible for miles. The helpful agent even went to "check it out and got back to me". Sigh. I was like ***!!! Conflicting information is just too much to take.

Anyone got any suggestions? Should I just hold on to boarding pass stub and claim the miles retroactively? (think this is last option)

As you are trying to get credit on on SQ FF plan - it is possible that your ff plan does not allow discounted economy fares to be credited, either on its own ticket, or on other Star Alliance frequent flyer partners' tickets.

I would suggest a couple of things:

i) mail a letter to SQ, and copy both UA and AC.
ii) if you do not get anywhere with option i), and if you already have another Star Alliance partner's account, simply credit your miles there.

Yup, am trying to get credit for SQ's FF plan. THink I'll just do as suggested! Thanks

i was just checking out yyz-lga fares for 12/24/05 returning 1/3/06 on ac.com and expedia. ac.com tango fares were the same as the expedia UA codeshare fares [for the exact same flights, except the extra $5 booking fee]. Since ac.com booking is a tango fare, no status miles. However the UA booking codes is "V" class. Does this mean i get the status miles/segments if I booked with UA?

If that's the case, there appears to be no incentive to booking with ac.com [other than getting the minimal online booking miles and extra $5 booking fee on expedia].

any comments would be appreciated

Same question here. If I book an AC tango fare on a United flight, do I get 100% or 50% if I post to US Dividend miles? Same for AC tango fare for an AC flight, I assume it's still 50%?

LH codeshare on SAA metal - AE points or not?

Another question: I'm planning a trip to South Africa in March. The only *A way there is connecting on to a LH flight from FRA. The LH flight to JNB is a codeshare on SAA metal. Can I still get AE miles for that segment or am I out of luck? Anyone know the latest on when SAA will finally become a member?

ypqRD Nov 15, 2005 12:00 pm

Oooh! Oooh! I know this one!

You need a three digit LH flight number FRA to JNB. Say flight 572 for example. That is on LH metal and you will get miles (I did.) Avoid the four digit LH flight numbers, those are on SAA metal. This is a pretty good rule for all airlines in my experience. The flight will have three or four or five flight numbers, one for each code share, and whoever has the three-digit flight number, that's whose metal it is. The rest are along for the ride. Of course it only matters if not all the metal-owners are in the alliance, and that's the FRA-JNB story.

That is what I figured - I was just hoping (dreaming) that since SAA is due to join *A any decade now there might be some special dispensation for code shares on their metal.
