YVR Security Breach

There has been a security breach at YVR this morning. It appears to be affecting domestic and possibly international flights. US departures are not affected at this time.

Wasn't me. I am enjoying a breakfast of Corona, Godiva chocolates, and a bagel..

Beautiful day in Van today though. I am debating either renting a boat or going golfing.. :D

You know a guy can't even sit down at a blackjack table in Vegas and do math in his head without security knowing, Save-on-foods can calculate how many onces of bread I've bought in the last ten years on their save-on-more card, and you can't even get in my kids daycare provider without a visual conformation of who you are against their file photo of you. These security breaches are totally the fault of the process set up by the security contractors. They should have to compensate the the airlines when their process fails.

The noon news in YVR says " a Fast track booth was unmanned"....

causing 18 flights to be delayed while security tapes were reviewed.

YOWkid Sep 18, 2005 1:26 pm

wow, what incompetence. I hope people at CATSA HQ in YOW does something about this. These agencies who they contract the work to are really, really... oh never mind. I'll stop my b!tching.

Update...

40 domestic and international flights now delayed.
The booth was apparently unmanned for 25 mins.

YOWkid Sep 18, 2005 1:37 pm

For 25 minutes?!? That's unreal.

By the way, why would international flights be delayed (assuming breach was at A/B and C entrances)? Don't D gates have separate entry points?

nobody-elite Sep 18, 2005 1:41 pm

:D ... don't know YOWkid ... I am only the messenger, relaying the noon news here...

The odd domestic flight departs from D50/D51 which are accessible from the C pier, IIRC

YOWkid Sep 18, 2005 1:45 pm

True, but there is a swing gate at C/D50, C/D51 and C/D52 if I remember correctly to separate domestic and international -- unless they have removed it...

I know. :D

I still think all those security ground crews that contract to CATSA are absolute incompetent fools and I have no time for their stupidity. I've never seen such a large batch of them all in one place doing something so important.

MPs are a different story. ;) :D

CKNW AM980 reporting something different

YVR Security Breach
Sep, 18 2005 - 11:00 AM

VANCOUVER(CKNW/AM980) - Flights are getting back to normal at Vancouver International Airport after a security scare this morning.
"We thought there was a security breach as one of the fast-track gates in the domestic terminal was left unstaffed by CANSA. <sic>

But upon investigation, we realized that there has been no security breach and everything's been ready to go"

Airport spokesperson Artie Chompol says some mid-day flights will be 30 to 60 minutes late in taking off.

Shareholder Sep 18, 2005 2:00 pm

Didn't this happen a month or two ago, also at YVR?! Of course, the whole security thing is a massive farce and waste of money.

How effing incompetent is this?!? It's not a case of "better safe than sorry". This is a case of just absolute stupidity and patheticness. Waste of money, waste of time, waste of resources, waste of everything.

Braindrain Sep 18, 2005 2:09 pm

Wow! Good thing I made the morning flight out.

A positive about the domestic fast-track, they've now cordoned off the security scanner so only fast-trackers can use it. ^ I thought it was a bit uncomfortable when they would shove me in front of the line (sometimes).
