OT: discount airlines in Argnetina
I have been searching but cannot find the names of discount airlines out of BA [EZE] to Cordoba [COR]. Can anyone help me. I can see the large billboards in BA in my memory but for the life of me I cannot find them on the internet.
The cheapest fare I am coming up with from BA (downtown airport) to COR is $381 US +++ and that is in Club Cordoba class (eg bus class) on Aerolineas Argentinas. Feb 22-25. Surely there is a better fare???

I believe, but not totally sure, that fares might be different and in US dollars for non residents of Argentina.

I found this in Galileo. It is a SITI fare.

You need an AR agency. The major problem is that LAPA went broke and the others are hanging on. I've heard of something called LAFSA, but need updated information myself.

There is another option. A choice of 2 airpasses.
1. the Visit Argentina
http://www.aerolineas.com.ar/index_e...pais=us&secc=3
2. the Argentina Flypass
Southern Winds has an airpass. I don't have a current set of rules, but their office is in the Miami area [Coral Gables, I think]. 1-800-379-9179.

I will visit Argentina in April. I was interested in visiting Iguazu Falls and started searching through Expedia, Destina, etc. All quotes were unbelievably high.
I decided to post a question on Lonely Planet Thorn Tree and got the answer, which I will give you for the same price I've bought it: the Argentinean government charges up to 3 times more from foreigners. According to these sources, only nationals can buy discounted tickets. It seems true, as I checked one of the airlines website and found a very good price, but the catch was at the bottom of the page, where the buyer should write the number of his/her Argentinean ID, along with the Department that had issued such document.
As a result I changed the duration of my stay (first stop in a RTW award trip) to two days, prefering to patronize another country that treat visitors with more consideration with some extra days of my time and spending.

I've found a very large discrepancy.
These are unsaleable NET fares. I can't even pull up the rules in Galileo. The system inhibits me, perhaps because they can only be bought on the net.
BUE-COR SAT-01JAN05 UNSALEABLE FARES
NET FARES
CX FARE FARE C AP MIN/ SEASONS...... MR GI
ARS BASIS MAX
1 AR 166.00R OAP10 O 10+ 2/14 R WH
2 A7 166.00R NAP10 N 10+ 2/14 R WH
3 A7 208.00R VRT V 4+ 2/15 R WH
4 AR 250.00R LAP21 L 28+ 7/21 R WH

6 A7 131.00 M M 1+ R WH
7 A7 149.00 K K + R WH
8 A7 169.00 H H + R WH
That first fare is equivalent to US$56 return.
The best, besides the airpasses are some fares of US$66 1-way on AR in B class that are salable only in combination with an international arrival ticket on AR.
USD BASIS
AR 66.00 BVD B
AR 116.00 QVD Q

UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED
TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED ON/AFTER 01JAN 05.
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED
TICKETS MAY NOT BE SOLD IN ARGENTINA.
NOTE -
FARES ONLY APPLY FOR PASSENGER WITH AR
INTERNATIONAL TICKET ARRIVING TO ARGENTINA
There is an agency dealing with youth travel in BA that should have English speakers. Check www.asatej.net. You don't have to be a youth to deal with them; you just can't get youth fares. Perhaps they have a way around this problem. Let us know if you find one.

Try the South America forum
I would search in the south american forum - from Gaucho where a variety of people are always discussing alternativesSouth America Forum
From my experience, I would reccomend flying with Southern winds as they offer the same prices to all people regardless of their country of residence.
I took the SA pass a few years ago, but with the current prices of airfares, I would buy the tickets individually as I believe they are cheaper.

You are right regarding my family name beeing Araujo, but not right on the Iguau thing. There are two airports and towns, one on each side of the border. I was looking for Iguazu Falls, on the Argentinean side. I may be wrong but there aren't any flights from BA to the Brazilian side.
I have been there many times as a teenager.
Best regards.

But really nothing in your post referred to an airport, just as cataratas.

Thanks everyone, esp Fareguru........I have tried Southern Winds and I am getting an even lower fare than above......$264 A pesos including tax which is not much. Now the question is whether I can buy this as a foreigner but I do not see anything that should prevent me, well so far.
This is just the kind of help I really appreciate on FT. Thanks.

Most domestic flights from Buenos Aires fly out of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP). Few fly out of Ezeiza (EZE) the international airport. A remise (radio taxi) between the 2 takes about 30 minutes and costs about AR$60 aka US$20 (regardless of baggage, number of people)
