Fare codes
 

I was talking to an AC agent the other day en route to ORD, she was mentioning that for every new fare idea initiated by AC, a new fare code must be used. Hasn't AC pretty much used up the alphabets?

Why can't there be a simpler structure in place for fares? There has to be a way to merge travel agents' fare codes with the ones online. Further, do we really need 3 separate Tango, Fun and Latitude codes? It makes life difficult for travellers and employees alike (I still remember how long the agent took to decide whether my Latitude fare was eglible for stand by or not).

Not quite true. As long as the fare basis is different, they could load a different set of rules in. The booking class could be one of the existing ones. (There are still a few unused booking classes)

It's already a lot simpler than it was! The agent should have known automatically that LATITUDE = standby OK. Don't know why it took him/her so long.

18 booking classes for economy class fares is indeed quite complicated.

It causes confusion for customers (as in trying to determine what their fare allows/does not allow). It also confusions for employees (as in Scott218's case), whether due to lack of proper training or something else.
