Star Gold / Silver (*G / *S) checked baggage policy (2017 onwards)

From the AC website:

Changes to checked baggage policy
September 25, 2017

Air Canada is revising the checked baggage policy that applies to Star Alliance Gold and Silver members for tickets issued on or after September 25, 2017.

Star Alliance Gold Members

You may check one extra bag free of charge, over and above the number of bags allowed by the fare type purchased. The maximum weight for each bag is as follows:

Premium Economy / Economy Class: 23 kg / 50 lb
Business Class: 32 kg / 70 lb
Star Alliance Silver Members

Your checked baggage allowance (i.e. number of bags and maximum weight of each bag) will be equivalent to that of the fare type purchased.

If you are an Altitude member, your checked baggage allowance remains unchanged. The priority baggage services offered to Altitude, Star Alliance Gold and other eligible guests are also unaffected.

We invite you to view our complete checked baggage policy for exceptions and other important information.
So looks like:

1x50lb for domestic/TB Tango
2x50lb for domestic/TB Flex

Wonder why they did it... (end sarcasm)
(but really I probably shouldn't be complaining)

I mean if they want to get rid of my only incentive to fly AC over the other *A carriers,...

Hmm...

Seems like the *A website no longer mentions 1 free for *S.

Says only 1 extra for *G.

So Silver no longer gets 1 free bag for Tango/Flex fare?

Seems like *S gets nothing extra no matter what.

*G appears to get one extra bag over standard allowance, and not at 32kg unless J.

This is only for domestic, right?

If so, who cares, how many foreign *S fly AC domestic?

If you are an Altitude member, your checked baggage allowance remains unchanged.

For now at least...

This is roughly in-line with what UA offers. Actually still slightly better overall, as UA gives no free bags to *S and only one to *G when flying in Y domestically.

Party's over, AC was one of the only carriers giving *S a free bag on any fare and *G the same as its own top elites.

AFAIK, it's everywhere on AC and potentially everywhere on *A unless carrier specifies otherwise (like AC used to do).

Cant confirm.

That's what *A has mentioned since I started flying.

I wondered when AC was going to do this.

It's now exactly the same as UA.

Wel, at least it seems like Altitude allowance hasn't changed (yet).

Why would they change the Altitude allowance? Those members have proven that they spend money on AC.

I suspect there were a lot of FOTSG A3*G checking 3x70 each way on $200 Tango fares.

OK, I'll bite.
What is FOTSG? Fresh off the Star Gold is the best I can come with.

Fly Once To See Grandma - Term for those who only fly once in a blue moon (hardly "frequent" flyers)
