Weather Delays/Diversions July 22 2019
Weather and major delays at LGA / JFK / EWR
AC 548 YVR-EWR circled and now diverted to YYZ
AC 7638 YUL-LGA delayed thus AC 7641 delayed, with 1hour+
Same with AC 718 YYZ-LGA and 723 LGA-YYZ
AC 714 is still circling

The EF comments for this flight are fascinating, especially the explicit reference about compensation (bolding mine):

This didn’t go quite as planned...
Okee dokey. I think I spend too much time on FlyerTalk and all the years of advice I have read from all you great people ultimately didn’t work out for me tonight.
I live in Ottawa. I have a meeting in NY tomorrow.
I am currently sitting on a runway in YYZ in hour 2 of a ground stop on AC7676 to Boston.
Toronto to Boston you ask?
Well my flight tonight to EWR direct from YOW was cancelled very early today.
I used the online rebooking tool to take the 3 PM to YYZ and then AC720 to LGA. I was so proud of myself.
The flight to YYZ was on time.
AC720 was cancelled.
The online rebooking tool wouldn’t work this time. AC reservations was so overloaded they wouldn’t put me on hold.
So so I walk to the 500 person line at customer service.
Someone yells “if you want to go to Boston instead on NY run to gate 64”. I do some quick math and decide to go for it.
I get on the flight to Boston proud of myself. I book a rental car from Logan to midtown. All is good. My pride runneth over.
Then the bad news. First we suffer through hour 1 of Boston ground stop. We get 1 cupful of water. Seriously.
Now hour 2. Apparently the water rations are on their way.
My pride? Not so much.
I could be at the Sheraton in terminal hotel sipping Chardonnay. Instead I am here. In 25C.
The second cupful of water? Nope. Pretzels.

Well, things have gotten worse. I wonder how many AC flights have been cancelled or diverted, or delayed for hours, or aircraft not where they need to be

Well hour 2 is just about up. I have had two extra cups of water rations. I turned down the pretzels since that seemed ... well ... counterintuitive.
I have googled the new new amendments to the Canadian Transportation Act which were in force July 15 so they apply. We can only remain here on the tarmac for another hour. AND THEN another 45 minutes if it seems that the ground stop in Boston will imminently lifted and the plane will take off.
The Captain has to make an announcement every 30 minutes by law. He has kept to that as far as I can tell.
Thats all for now.

We were enjoying NYC weather and got to LGA for AC719. Concierge strongly discouraged standing by for 717 since she had word not yet publicallly disclosed that 717's inbound would arrive after ours.
An hour or two later, 30 angry folks were going to miss international connections. At least 3 people on 719 were willing to volunteer for compensation, but AC didn't need anyone.
After gloating a bit that our flight was the only one still making it out, and taking photos of the 300+ in line for rebooking, I got my just desserts--our inbound which had made 2 loops diverted back to YYZ.
So now we are enjoying runway views at the new TWA hotel (at JFK!).
