Maybe something like this happen:

A team of 3 amigos responsible to work on mystery badges.

Amigo 1 work on the coding to count our Wings. Been having major issue as we all know and been working hard everyone trying to understand why 1 + 1 came up as 3 and not 2.

Amigo 2 suppose to work on the new Double Dare graphic design, but been slacking off and can't have it done before the deadline and hence aimgo 2 quit and went work for WestJet

Amigo 3 work on Web page design and should have been releasing the badge on Oct 11 or the evening of Oct 10

But Amigo 2 had been told WestJet now has a referral program and you get $5K per successful hire, so Amigo 2 successfully got Aimgo 3 over to WestJet. Since it is competitor, you get fire right away. Amigo 2 first day of work was Oct 10. So, no one update the code for the EYW web site.

Amigo 2 did reach out to Amigo 1, but was too busy fixing the calculion and missed the interview. And did finally fix the calculation which include the planed 1-day Oct 11th Double Dare badge.

**disclaimer: the above is fake news!!
traacs and philelite like this.

My Saturday flights didn't post today.

If Saturday and Sunday post tomorrow, then I expect I'll jump from 213 to 5

sat activities go back to the 4-day cycle, hence, it will be Wed
Sun will post on Thursday, which is why I am targeting Friday for my 95th (and 96th) AQS to be post.

Hence, for your Wings, we should expect the update for your last weekend activities to be update on Friday.

Oh this is weird. EYW says I've visited 20 airports.

That means it has my Friday flights.

But I don't have the other badges for them (like a Wing Tip for SFO-YVR).

So they've "partially" posted to EYW.

They really need my wing counting algorithm

Okay I understand now.

It seems like the flights post to EYW, which is why my "airports visited" has updated.

But then they run their badge/wing counting algorithm, which takes ... an hour??!?!?!

Given a list of flights of length ~100, I can calculate the badges and wings in a microsecond.

So given every user, I could do it in a second.

Why does this take AC an hour?

I heard their 386 SX (not DX) CPU broke down, so they need to revert back to the 8088 CPU to do the calculation

Maybe their PDP-11 is struggling with the load because their coders decided on a O(n to the power of n) algorithm.

I'm actually old enough to remember (briefly) using one of those puppies as part of a CS lab. They already obsolete at that point.

But heck they even taught COBOL at the time and that has still yet to die. One of my buddies makes a very nice consulting income keeping those systems limping along.

Getting my badge counting algorithm down below n**2 took some mathematical ingenuity from @DrunkCargo.

But even at n**2, I feel like it should be faster.

I think I'm technically at n log n right now, but n is such a small number that the constant factor takes over.

they finished my update at around 5:07pm. initially thought I was missing 2000 Wings. That is when I realized I haven't my record as I VDB on Friday and hence overnight at YUL (which is why I was at YUL in the morning to meet...) Maybe they update in the ordering of the Rank position?

I moved from 213 to 151, so mine looks good.

And that was from adding SFO-YVR-YYJ-YVR-YUL.

Below 100 is a joke

The lab equipment I used for my MSc ran a mix of VAX and PDP machines for control and data collection. I'd usually ftp the data back to my trusty 486DX to do the actual analysis. I did have to troubleshoot a bit of Fortran at one point on one of the Vax's. No COBOL though.

Finally! Computer humour I understand. My first computer was an 8088.
