Or just the usual IT bungling.

Ok, I'm glad they didn't get rid of E35K access all together. I'm not really happy with this change, however I totally understand the issues with the lounges being overcrowded and to solve this issue you have to take away from the bottom. Have a trip with a friend down to Mexico 4 days after my guesting privileges will be taken away. I guess I'll have to use the guest passes.

I welcome the change but I am sceptical about how much things will improve. The domestic and trans-border lounges at YYZ are packed full most mornings. Removing E35K guests and families aren't going to fix that. They removed all E35K from the INTL lounges already and they are still packed at night when the European flights are leaving.

This announcement is a change to already announced benefits for 2017. We are all waiting for qualification and benefits for 2018.

With 2017 benefit changes being very small, will AC gain trans boarder traffic with the new changes to UA ff for next year? These changes are, no seat selection until day of flight, only 1 carry on and no status points on "tango fare" tickets. Since UA is now more in line with DL changes for next year, will AC change their status qualifications for next year too?

This is the issue.

Qualification is usually (but not always) announced before the qualification year starts.

But the benefits are usually only announced in December for the following year starting in March...In other words, do not expect 2018 benefits to be announced now. We are still waiting for 2017 benefits to be announced.

If this is the extent of the changes to the program after the introduction of AQD... I'm annoyed. I was hoping for some improvement for SE's.

So, one thing this tells us is that AC considers the lounge traffic levels to be generally acceptable.

I'm not sure that this is the case. While there have been threads on SEs not making the cut for next year due to AQD, I expect that there will also be lots of E50k and maybe even E35k missing the AQD cut. By now, AC will have a much better idea of the numbers and they may already expect a significant decrease in lounge access.

I'd consider it as a win for SEs if AC doesn't cut any SE benefits for 2017.

I have a friend who qualified early for 35K before October 15th. Does this mean that effective right away he no longer can guest anyone into the lounge or would he maintain the "old" 35K privilege until March 2017?

Old privilege until March 1st, 2017.

That would be really bad thing to do consider 20K AQD bar for canadaians

I like how E35K lounge visit is not cut, looks like I lost the bet to cow lol.

I'm amazed you're not mad that they're restricting status-gifting to only 1MMs and above?

I don't think the cuts will be in the benefits, but in the qualifying. I think tango fares will not count for status starting within 2 years. Just look what DL and UA did for next year.
