- Original fare was Low-Flex
- Permitted bidding range was C$425 - C$1300
- At time bidding opens, R=0 and P=0

If you don't mind me asking, is this a 788 flight?

Mods: it might be worthwhile moving these posts to their own thread dedicated specifically to posts like this with little/no comment. Flight # or route, fare, bid range, P and R at various times. FT is all about maximizing the value of the system to FFers, and if this is going to become the new normal for AC, we need to figure out the system in order to game it. Data is the best way to do that.

Don't mind -- no, not a 788. In fact, not even a widebody - A321.

Just got an email, and it was broken. Have any of you found a way to access the link that the email was supposed to contain?

Mmmmm - Maybe Air Canada should do this...

Email from Swiss:

"Retrieve your current reservation under “Manage my bookings” on swiss.com, decide how much an upgrade is worth to you and submit your bid up to 132 hours before departure. You’ll find out 48 hours before departure whether your bid has been successful."

yyz_atc_qq Dec 15, 2016 3:03 am

There is already a thread discussing this

RZR Dec 16, 2016 1:31 pm

I got an email form Ac to bid on an upgrade. I'll never use this , no COS bonus is given.

mahoogalah Dec 16, 2016 2:10 pm

I got one of the bid emails for the YYZ-FRA and FRA-YYZ segments. Currently booked in PY. The ranges for the bids are $400-$800 and $395-$800 CDN respectively to upgrade to J. Based on what I have seen in the LMU thread, these would seem to be reasonable ranges so I am thinking of I want try for an upgrade, this is the better route rather than hoping for an LMU at a better price.

Thoughts?

I think you are on your own for the moment, because it is hard to predict at this early stage what the average response to the opportunity to bid will be. If no one bids, then the LMU should be offered for less than the lowest bid amount. But without the ability to co-ordinate with other passengers, you are in a classic prisoner's dilemma.

I was surprised to get an email today to bid for an upgrade on an upcoming domestic short haul. Surprised because the flight is an AP reward on someone else's non status miles and I am the secondary passenger. Based on recent experience travelling on such rewards, AC cannot recognize my status for normal benefits, but lo and behold, they can find me buried in another reservation and ask me to bid. No thanks - get the basics right first, please!!

IluvSQ Dec 17, 2016 3:33 pm

I was also surprised to get the email under the following circumstances:

3 person booking, AE reward, X Class, YYZ-LAX ( so I cannot E-Up 3 of us in advance,
and with a child would not risk it).

The flight is a 763, so pods would make it worthwhile.
However, when I check on Expert Flyer, it shows right now ( 9 days prior to flight)
J0C0D0Z0P0R0Y2B2M1 all others 0. To me that suggests oversold flight with a
sold out J cabin. Why would they be asking for bids? Is it only to guage market demand? Or, if the flight is oversold, and some people may have to be op-uped,
is this their way to monetize that situation?

Maybe they hold a set number of seats specifically for the upgrade auction. If the auction fails to attract enough bids, then they get released back into the pool.

Unlikely IMO. I could see AC limiting availability in lower booking classes P and maybe Z, but refusing to sell full-fare J tickets makes no sense.

Interesting - that seems quite a bit lower than what they typically charge for a LMU, but then again If you paid say $2,000 for PE and then ponied up another $1,500 return as your bid, that isn't far off what a J ticket might cost.

Why would they allow upgrade requests?

Just consider this a waitlist. If space is available when they process it, a bid will be accepted. If no space is available, it won't.
