Test your knowledge of Aeroplan myths and earn 1000 pts

I know I don't spend much time on this forum anymore, but did a quick search and couldn't find this anywhere. Apologies if it's a duplicate.

This was on an Aeroplan email I received. It says it is targeted, so may or may not work for you.

As far as the myths go, we all have our own opinions. ;)

Smiley90 Oct 20, 2016 1:03 am

worked! Didn't get the points right away so we'll see. thanks for posting!

Almost shameful

Even though they are all truths, I clicked on myth to get the points. - Call me a hypocrite :P

hastuk Oct 20, 2016 2:28 am

Read this at the end after entering my Aeroplan number. I don't expect to receive any points.

"Thank you. You have successfully registered for this promotion.

If it makes you feel better, I get booted out of every single Aeroplan survey after I put my country of residence as the UK. (Great job creating a self selecting a sample group there guys...). No free market research from me!

painintheuk Oct 20, 2016 6:01 am

Thanks margarita-girl!

I finished the quiz 18 seconds ago and still haven't received the points, so I assume that this quiz is a myth :).

I tried again with Mrs. PITUK's AP number and got the following message:

Perhaps this is exactly what they are looking for. At the end of the day they can simply say that based on our survey there is no myth in AP, so no need for any improvement.

Give a handful of people the real survey, and award them the 1,000 miles. Knowing that some of those will likely share the link - not having to pay out the 1,000 miles, but still getting the survey results. Right up there with "chance to win 25,000 miles" to complete a survey.

Suggest they try this one

You have searched on ANA for available flights for a mini-rtw. When you try to book a segment, the agent advises no such seat is available.

or this

Did you know you can book on line with no service charge, but if you want a better or more complicated routing, you will have to phone in and be charged extra.

or

We will be increasing our cancellation and change fees later this year for many clients

Seems an appropriate place for this:

I can't imagine what value there would be to this "survey"... it's an exercise in clicking "myth" 5 times quickly.

In any event, thanks to OP for sharing this. I gave it a go, fingers crossed that it yields some points ^

songsc Oct 20, 2016 2:27 pm

I don't think you need to answer all those questions "correctly" to get the bonus miles.

Yes.

A quick three second search by thread title simply using the keyword "myths" yielded the above link. I know, I can do miracles in this godforsaken place.

HerpaYvr Oct 21, 2016 10:54 am

Thanks for the link, that was a quick and easy 1,000 AP while killing time in the YYC MLL :D

dafonz Oct 21, 2016 11:45 am

It's targeted. Probably won't get points, but doesn't hurt to try :P

yyznomad Oct 21, 2016 12:05 pm

Bumping the original myths quiz thread.

Some might argue that, since the promo is targeted, it may constitute fraud to try to get the 1000 miles if you were not targeted.

Some might argue, and many have, that in fact the AE program is a fraud. When a casual user tries to cash in miles for a trip to Europe, in Y they finally "get it".

If you google "aeroplan myths" the quiz is one of the first items listed. It is on their public website. The only time during the quiz are you told that the promo is targeted is at the very end. I would argue the "fraud" is being done by Aeroplan.

MasterGeek Oct 21, 2016 1:01 pm

some of the things that are claimed to be myths by Aeroplan are actually true.

-Aeroplan agents have access to more seats that what is visible on aeroplan.com:
NOT A MYTH. Award seats on some airlines (Air China, Singapore ?) do not show up on Aeroplan.com. Plus double stop-over itineraries cannot be booked on aeroplan.com

segacs Oct 21, 2016 1:17 pm

I think the point is that all these so-called myths are actually true. Aeroplan's attempts to dispel them is actually coming across as a desperation move.

jerryhung Oct 21, 2016 2:17 pm

I think "getting free 1000 miles" is THE myth = b/c nobody will get it :D
every website/blogger is advertising it

Except it doesn't tell you it's targeted until after you've done it :p

KenHamer Oct 22, 2016 2:22 pm

It's a yuuuuge ripoff.

People are saying it's rigged.

I'm hearing that HRC is behind it.

I will build a great, beautiful wall around it.

And Aeroplan will pay for it.

Anyone who says otherwise is lying, and I will sue them.

HerpaYvr Oct 22, 2016 5:47 pm

To get the link you must have received the invitational email, and if not targeted by AE for yourself, then from someone who was targeted and forwarded on. Those using links from bloggers are never told by those bloggers that there was a targeted element to the promotion. They only discover this upon completing the quiz. This could have a significant accounting impact on AE/AIMIA if it had to honour all the non-targeted "winners" given how the link has gone viral.

mgn2000 Oct 23, 2016 11:31 am

I used the link provided by Margarit girl , I got the reply below after completing the quiz. Lets see what happens.

Thank you. You have successfully registered for this promotion.
