Flights with stops

Hi,

for AC flights with stops (e.g. AC835 GVA-YYZ with a stop in YUL), are pax required to disembark at the stopping point, clear immigration, and reembark again, just like connecting on two different flights?
Or do they get to stay in the aircraft the whole time since it's just a "quick stop"?
Thanks!

You clear immigration in YUL before continuing on to YYZ, because there are domestic passengers getting on in YUL and it wouldn't make sense to have them clear immigration in YYZ.

On flights like that you will have to disembark and clear immigration and customs. AC picks up domestic passengers for YUL-YYZ

Thanks for the replies.
So this means I can think of this flight as two separate flights (GVA-YUL, YUL-YYZ), with all the typical connecting procedures in YUL, correct?

P.S. I wonder why AC sells these kind of flights as single flights instead of flights with connections.
I just don't see any point of marketing them as single flights.

Shows up higher in search engine results than it would if it was a connection?

Because if you travel GVA-YYZ on AC835 you don't need to worry about a missed connection?

So they only need to credit AE miles for GVA-YYZ, rather than GVA-YUL-YYZ?

Honestly that doesn't make a difference in GVA-YYZ via YUL, but does make a noticeable difference in YYZ-SYD vs YYZ-YVR-SYD.

Just a heads-up: your luggage will be off-loaded in YUL also. Be prepared to leave some room in your checked bags - if you have bought Duty Free booze in GVA or on board, you'll have to put it into your checked luggage for the YUL - YYZ leg, as you cannot bring it back on board as cabin baggage (the ol' 100ml rule we know and love so well...).

I guess that makes sense, although YUL-YYZ has enough flights such that if I happen to misconnect, I wouldn't worry too much about getting onto a later flight.

Hah!
I did not think of this.

Thanks for the heads up; this makes me wish more there was a true GVA-YYZ non-stop flight.

This has changed. You can now bring Duty Free Liquor on board any Dom flight if you are connecting in Canada. You do not have to put it in your luggage. The bottles must be in approved duty free bag that is seals with your receipt showing. The first airport to allow this was YUL.

There are no current AC flights where you don't disembark, but they have done them in the past. The most recent I recall being the 763 service LHR-YYT-YHZ where for a period of time LHR-YHZ passengers didn't need to disembark to clear customs/immigration in YYT, but the flight continued onwards with no domestic YYT-YHZ seats sold.

You were give the wrong info. You can bring your Duty Free Booze on your Dom connecting flight.

There was some flight in the prairies during EYWv4 that kept pax onboard when stopping to dropoff/pickup pax. I don't recall which route, and it was Jazz not Mainline, and certainly not involving a border.

YQR-YXE-YOW/YYZ/something

We deplaned in YXE. Most people did not.
