EXACTLY ! It's like they knew exactly what they were doing. Almost as though they made people dump all the inventory of miles out there when the 7 year expiry was almost here.

I too, was one that has dumped last year and just finished booking an Asia trip as they were expiring at year end !!!!!!

I know - to each their own but A/C can really IRK me sometimes - yet I keep flying them:confused::D

I think I read somewhere that they're reducing MarketFare from Classic Plus 20% for all members. Then the Distinction discounts come on top of that. So 35% after 20% is a total 48% off.

Burn and bail.
I razed all my family's accounts during that promo/glitch the other year. I let my account build back up but I am a few miles off another rtw. I book it in a few more weeks and then I shred my card.

Closing in on 200 posts in about 12 hours, and not a single "but Aeroplan is so much better than all those other crappy points programs that require so many points for a redemption."

They must be asleep.

Not many of those folks left I guess.:p

The AE reward chart has moved form one of the best to fairly competitive to ridiculously expensive in just two years.

I´m not aware of any other award chart which has been enhanced in such a short period of time - quite an accomplishment.

I'm probably going to switch to UA next year. I'll just have to figure out a migration plan to make use of whatever status I earn :p

Here's the award chart effective Jan 1, 2014. It's easier to look at this way.

Speaking of extinction, I am getting more and more nervous that my collection of aeropesos are going the way of the dodo. What's a good way to use up 2.5m points? I don't forsee using them for trips anytime soon, I usually end up giving away about 250k for friends to travel each year, but that doesn't even begin to put a dent in the account. :(

Donation to charity perhaps? Although I am a very frequent traveler, I am still a relative noob when it comes to strategic use of aeropeso's

Many worthy causes can be found here, including Honens in YYC:

I will it believe when I see it. AE has a pattern of over-promising and under-delivering.

160K for J to Australia? That is just ridiculous. On top of the $1000 in fees. Give me a break. What a joke.

and no vague unsubstantiated "but Air Canada is such a superior airline" posts that always seem to be the last line of defence for the AC/AE fan club!
