PHX service
Just booked down to PHX for New Years. Has anyone tried this yet, any info worth knowing about Skyharbour?
Route is served by gutless 737. 1D |
Expect no service and those crappy old CP 737s but hey it is direct service and there is lots to do around PHX. I did PHX-YYC which uses same planes.
Sky Harbor is OK but AC is in older UA terminal. UA handles arrangements and can be very disorganized on occasion requiring long lines (mostly to YYZ during afternoon flight). Also with recent cutbacks UA lounge was closing early (ie 6 PM) when most AC flights are leaving much later. Don't expect to get real food in the terminal (eat before you get there) and definitely no "food" on board (new enhanced transborder service). Lineups at night are usually no problem for elite flyers so 1 hour prior to flight departure should be OK. |
Hello from Florida with lots of sunshine,
I will be flying YYZ-PHX very soon though I have never flown on that route before. In any case, my latest experience with AC's transborder service in Executive Class is good. The flight to Orlando from YYZ only lasts a bit more than 2 hours but we were served 'hot meal' in J. One very good quality cesar salad with chicken + hot good quality sandwich. Yes, it's actually hot, not cold. Y get cold wrap I was told. For a lunch flight, I say that's good enough. So Transborder J is o.k. |
Wow! You were served from something aside from the usual pretzels, cashews, or nature mix going from YYZ-MCO in 'J'. At least in the coach class they also offer potato chips & kit-kats.
I've been taking this route almost weekly for months and with the exception of breakfasts I haven't seen anything resembling a meal. |
YYZ-PHX service has been good and you should get a hot meal in J. It is almost a 5 hour flight.
It is the "short" YYC and YVR-PHX that don't fare so well. |
I've simply read posts till now but last Sunday's fiasco in PHX has motivated me to register. For PHX-YYC AC3509, UA had only 2 ticket agents and the StarAlliance Gold/AC E & SE/Exec Class line-up was closed. Needless to say it was a complete fiasco as UA has a flight at 7:35 p.m. to LAX. One of the agents was occupied for the entire time I was in the general line-up with 2 people (I arrived at 6:15 for 7:30 flight foolishly believing I could use my AC E status) until at 7:10 the other agent began pulling us out of line to get us booked, which caused a woman at the head of the line to verbally abuse me for not having arrived 3 hours before my flight.
Almost everyone in line with me (either ahead or behind) was either J Class or had AC E tags dangling from their bags! Now this is PHX-YYC. We're not talking families taking a once-in-a-lifetime vacation given the prices in Phoenix. We're talking the Scottsdale $$ crowd. What is AC thinking? |
Welcome to flyertalk to a fellow Edmontonian. You will soon learn that the quote below makes no sense at all, the words just don't go together!
What is AC thinking?[/B][/QUOTE] |
PunishedEdmontonian: Welcome to the board...and welcome to the ranks of the disgruntled Aeroplan family. I thought that the idea of the game was to win one customer at a time..not tick them off one at a time. There will a small informal gathering of FT members in YEG 24 OR 25 Jan 02. You are most welcome to join us and share your experiences. More will be posted when the gathering is more defined.

I got distracted at work before I could fill in the rest of my YEG-YYC-PHX-YYC-YEG experience.
Going down all you get is a wrap sandwich. Coming back you get an AC 'snack'. And , of course, in accordance with being in the busiest economy in the country and #1 in AC cut-backs for flights you get the "pleasure" of chronically-late, over-heated, noisy, smelly,filled-to-the-brim Dash-8 service out of and into YEG. |

I flew YYZ-PHX many times earlier this year and I had enjoyable trips the whole time. Only on one trip was there a possible "catastrophe" as the A/V system was not working properly....there was no sound. A clever FA came up with the idea to play Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as it was subtitled kudos to her for this!

Best advice these days are don't expect anything and you'll be surprise if you get anything from them.
YVR-PHX is listed as 3 hrs 2 mins, so under the "enhanced meal service", you'll get nothing more than a "smack (oops snack)". No in flight movie since it's less than 4.5 hours. |
If you want to see one of the infamous lineups at PHX (prior to 9/11) and brought to you by UA checkin, see here:

To be fair, the line-up I was in in PHX was nowhere near as bad as the one on the link above.
Now, U.S. Customs and Immigration in YYC on the way down trying to connect from YEG on the other hand.... |
