Then fly TANGO ... 1,000 miles for 240$ ? just say no ... or fly westjet ... do you really think writing here will change anything ??
if anything else writing here proves to AIR CANADA that reads this that you CARE SO MUCH about stupid 1,000 miles that you are considering this and even WASTING YOUR TIME WRITING A MESSAGE HERE ... how much do you value your time ? you must work for minimum salary to waste your time like that ... I wont pay that price. I was just complaining, unlike so many others on here :p. My point isnt that I will pay, but that if 80%+ price differential for minimum miles is to be the norm then there's no point trying to be Elite (whatever that will be) flying with AC, they are just taking the pi$$ at that point. Finally, if wasting your time on flyertalk was outlawed, there'd be a lot fewer posts... |

+1... we're all human... and I enjoy Quebec jokes so why hold back :) |
I fly YYZ-HKG a few times a year. For a similar price of AC T+ fare, I can get premium economy in CX. It is hard to justify to have T+ to get status miles and the remote possibility to UG in this route in AC vs a confirmed premium economy in CX.

TANGO is cheaper or equal to CX ... what's your point?
why go tango AC? |
I'm an E, and did the previously-unthinkable thing and actually paid more to fly on EVA's premium economy going YYZ-TPE. AC Tango is cheaper, but with no chance to upgrade and longer flying time plus zero hope of getting status again, AC loses my money. I no longer care about miles and status.

why go tango AC? Let me see... AC making us to pay premium for 100% status mile with a chance to lose aerolotto. Or you could pay the same as last year Tango+ fare and earn 25%/50% (i.e. 1/4 or 1/2 of the miles you can earn previously) AP is upping the requirement for tiers. (35k is optional *G, 50k is still third in line for upgrade) This is like a double smack down! Much harder to earn miles with AC, and you need to earn way more for higher tier for better chance of eUpgrade. Without the chance of eUpgrade in 2013, might as well earn *G from other *A FFP (hint A3) @ACTT, this is good for the business, but it is just too greedy. p.s. AC seems to know how to make their worker unhappy, but also know how to make the customer unhappy. "We are not happy until you are not happy"..... sigh. At lease as a customer we can walk away easy. |

Expect the Tango vs Tango+ fare difference to increase. Federal budget reportedly includes language to get MPs and all of federal cival service onto Tango+ fares and mandate restrictions on J fares under 2 hours plus all Latitude fares.
The federal government is AC's largest non related party (Aeroplan is technically AC's largest customer), so the fed's budget decision to put everyone onto T+ has a material negative affect on AC. I expect T to T+ fare difference on YOW flights to grow beyone the current $70 premium. Quote from the G&M article available Here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle2385085/ Members of Parliament will be giving up their first-class tickets on short-haul flights like the popular Ottawa-Toronto leg. Now only flights over two hours will qualify for first-class privileges at taxpayers’ expense. The frequent flyers will also be forced to look for bargains. Except for long flights to their ridings, MPs will only be allowed to purchase flights at Air Canada’s “Tango Plus” fare class, which is the second cheapest of five available options. |

Crikey. Any corporation with *any* real sense of feduciary responsibility to the shareholders has long since moved to 6 or 8 hour thresholds for permitting business class travel, or to an overseas requirement. Minor amount of money or not this is a simply embarassing waste of money by the federal government. Beyond belief really. The entitled class indeed. |
The new 2 hour rule is still ridiculous, MPs should have to buy Y on all flights less than 6 hours like the vast majority of private sector employees. You absolutely do not need to be in C for something like YYZ-YHZ! Of course, there should be some sort of exceptions for exceptionally tall or disabled MPs (age doesn't count, they can retire). Most of these MPs were nothing before they became MP, and most of them are still nothing post-election. I don't care if they buy T+ instead of T so that the taxpayers save a little on change fees but they should show the citizens at least the same level of accountability that private companies have to show to their shareholders. They're MPs but they act like they're Peers or something. If they want to sit up front they can supplement their own money or they can get in the eUpgrade line with everyone else.
The antics of some MPs is simply atrocious. I've put a couple of them in their place publicly (along with a red-faced aide-de-camp) for putting their egos on display at the airport. I avoid YOW to try to stay away from their shameful behaviour as much as possible. Some MPs are class acts, they just seem to be the exception rather than the rule. |
I think the forum here is a little confused about my point. With AC 2nd largest customer now mandating T+ fares and issuing a jihad on Lat and J fares, AC will likely respond by increasing the price differential between T and T+.
Increasing the price differential will negatively impact all of us FTers. The only potential upside to this situation is if the T+ vs Lat price differential is proportionate shrunk. Those of us who occaisionally pay the price difference between T+ and Lat for upgrade prices will see larger expense reimbursement from our employers. As for the jihad on J fares, I guess Jason Kenny just took away my upgrade on YYC-YYZ. |
