Changes to Tango Mileage Accumulation

As per Aeroplan, on Tango booking class now earns.....

25% - Domestic/Transborder
50% - International earns

Previously it was

50% -Domestic/Transborder (if I recall)
100% - International

Transborder are T+ because every US airlines gives 100% miles.
Is is definitly not the case for international flight (LH, LX, AF, KL don't give 100% miles everytime)

i guess that is designed to compete with the US carriers which offers 100% for 99.9% booking classes LOL

It's been 25% for quite sometime domestically, I'm pretty sure at least more than 5 years.

Sadly, I expect that to be the case. Miles can be a very large expense on longer flights, and when you sell LAS-HKG for $650 you don't have much margin to begin with. It will also serve a secondary purpose of stopping upgrades from the cheapest fares.

It just seems that AC is perpetually trying to reduce the reasons for me to stay with AC...were there ever any changes that actually have positive benefit for all in the last few years?

So now when I book my YYZ -> TPE tickets on expedia, I'll be left guessing if the AC portion earns 100% or 50% miles? That sounds bad.

If they actually lose money on you, wouldn't it make sense?

I think they apply the same rules to Taiwan as they do to China. Which seems to mean 100% according to the footnote?

BTW friends don't let friends buy on Expedia.

Actually I think once again this is a well thought out change. It targets infrequent travellers who decide solely on price, while having minimal impact on their status members. Same as the minimum mileage rule and the seat pitch change on the E90, each had very little if any effect on status holders.

We've screamed for years for them to keep in mind their best customers when they make changes and this year they actually seem to be doing so.

How does this only target infrequent travelers? As a frequent traveler I used to book the lowest fares for international itins. Those used to get me 100% status miles regardless of the fare class booked. I could also use my upgrade credits for upgrades. Now with the (re)introduction of Tango on international routes the lowest fares will not give me the same status miles or upgrade opps. The infrequent traveler doesn't have upgrade credits so that point is moot and probably doesnt place the same value on status miles so again that point is moot. So I would argue that these changes actually target frequent travelers where their travel policies require them to book the lowest available fares.
