How to Eupgrade

All right have read every post in the "How to Upgrade" thread since eupgrades were introduced and still have some questions?

Please confirm I can request an upgrade based on the applicable status, days or hours prior to departure? Prestige = 2 days/48 hrs so Flight July 3 YVR-HkG dep 1230pm means I can request an upgrade anytime on July 1 (12:05am hypothetically) or can I only request at July 1 1230pm?

If the above itinerary starts in YYC at 10am July 3 does that mean I have to wait until 1230pm July 1 to request my upgrade?

Last question what happens if I booked the above flights via lufthansa but all flights are AC operated?

Thank you and likely this has been posted elsewhere but I could not find the information.

You ill be only able to upgrade as a P 48 hours in advance of the scheduled departure time for each and every flight. So your YVR-HKG will be able to be upgraded on July 1st at 12:30pm PST and the same can be had seperately at 10:00am Central/Mountain time for your YYC-YVR.

I would suggest perhaps to wait until your YVR-HKG comes into to range as well before requesting the upgrade for YYC-YVR. Right now R9 showing as upgrade space on July 3rd but the flight in Y looks to be very oversold based on availability for AC#007 YVR-HKG...you might score an OPUP who knows though as there is no guarantees.....The YYC-YVR is only 1 hour and wouldn't kill you if you had to be in the back of bus so to speak and it's showing R2 space available currently and 5 seats in total for sale up front.
As long as each flight is AC Metal you will be able to upgrade as well. If you encounter any problems I would suggest to call Reservations as well if it fails online for any reason....they should be able to assist you as well.

2 things to keep in mind:

As a Prestige, you can only upgrade Tango Plus M fares (48 hours in advance) and Latitude Y and B fares (at time of booking)

(The summer upgrade promo announced today that allows *P to upgrade any Tango Plus fare only applies to domestic and US travel...therefore if not on an M fare or Latitude fare, you will only be able to upgrade the YYC-YVR portion, not the YVR-HKG portion)

If the flight is booked via Lufthansa, it depends which flight # it is booked under. If the flight is booked as a codeshare with a LH flight number (i.e. LH4567 operated by Air Canada), then you will not be able to request an upgrade in advance, and will only be able to request an upgrade at check in. And even then, the booking class of the LH flight might not map to the same on AC and therefore you might not be able to upgrade anyways if the booking class is ineligible.

If the flight is booked as an AC flight # (i.e AC007) but issued on LH ticket stock, you should still be able to request an upgrade in advance.

thank you for your reply's. I now see the summer upgrade promotion is NA flights only. As for the Lufthansa flight. I bought via a LH Codeshare as orbitz would not give me the AC flight separately. Is there anything I can do?

If it is an LH codeshare, you have to wait and request an upgrade at the airport for the YYC-YVR leg. You will be behind any SE or E requesters, but you still have a shot!

double check your booking class, get the AC PNR and you'll be able to find out the booking class it is being mapped to from either the eUpgrade site or the AC site when you manage your reservation
