loving e-upgrades!

So I had a flight to vancouver (flight 007) connecting on to HNL (047) and I forgot to login and do the eupgrade 4 days prior, it would be nice if the system emailed a reminder, but anyways.

I did request an upgrade when I checked in 24 hours prior to departing and it only cost 10 credits which I think is a great deal all the way to HNL, at first ti said 10 credits for each segment then when I went to the next page it deducted only 10 credits from my account.

Arrive at YYZ and I figured my shot of getting my upgrade cleared were slim to none since I forgot to do it 4 days prior, but to my surprise it was processed and I was give 9K, and this is a POD on a 777 (another first for me going to Vancouver)

Seemed way to easy, maybe there are lots of SE that have left the program? or its it e-upgrades have scared people away from upgrading?

Even the AC rep at the counter commented that there are way less upgrades now with the new system.

I hope its this easy in the future!

Did they seem surprised!? (Where's the sarcastic guffaw emoticon?)

If I get my upgrades, I will love the system. If I don't get my upgrades, I will hate the system.:p

Ummmm no, no reminder email is needed or else EVERYONE would request upgrades and you'd reduce your chances a lot.

Air Canada Threshold Upgrade

does the air canada status mile threshold include:
a) bonus status miles?
b) flight bonuses?

None of the above. Much better stuff: eCredits for upgrade. Plus, as I discovered today, the credits show up at worst (I didn't check yesterday) a day after the miles appear in you AE account.

It's not the e-upgrades it's the sheer numbers. There just aren't enough credits to be spending them on short flights. (See, I get to work in a dig bragging about how my flights are longer than your flights -- wait for the Asia people to come in and tell me my flights are nothing, their flights are worth upgrading -- and then the Australia people can come in and tell them they're amateurs:)

Look at it from AC's perspective, all those missing upgrades are either people who didn't buy up to M fares or people who paid for J. I think I know which there were more of.

I wonder if we'll start seeing op-ups come back as there are empty J seats and over-sold Y cabins. Then they'll start complaining about elites hoarding upgrade credits or something.

I expect there is probably a lot of hoarding right now as people get use to the value of the credits.

I also think that AC may actually end up with less buy ups for some. In the past people would face a year with a number of NAV and SWUs that could only be used if you bought up. Now you have the potential to use all of your credits for the equivalent of SSWUs. Perhaps fewer upgrades overall, but unless you do a rational analysis of your total plans you won't figure out until too late.

The stronger application of the rules and no chance of an agent not lifting the cert will also affect the upgrade activity.

Let's hope op ups become more frequent as I'm hoarding my credits for now too.

+1 :D

I'd like to see one thing added - Upgrades can only be requested within 4/7 days of departure. " It states "Not eligible for upgrade" not perhaps the correct wording for one as the fare is an M fare. Secondaly it would be good if it said you can request in T- 4 hours or something like that.

I got stumped last night thinking it was Saturday and refreshing every 2 minutes instead it should actually be tonight I do that :)

For the most part IMHO we are getting less upgrades equivalent as before with these new E-Upgrades.
I am currently in HKG and was waitlisted for an upgrade and it cleared in advance at 9:30am this morning SAT March 5th for my flight on AC#007 on Sunday at 19:10pm from HKG-YVR. Thsi is the first time this happened whereby it cleared in advance and I recieved an email confirming the waitlist cleared.
My only Pet Peeve is that if you want to standby on an earlier flight your Waitlist for the Upgrade doesn't follow you onto the earlier flight. This happened to me on the outbound on Thursday from YUL-YYZ as I was confirmed at the 7 day mark for the segments YYZ-YVR-HKG. I had to be firm with an Agent in order for them to give me upgrade in J Class from Montreal-Toronto even after they haad upgraded staff members on personal travel before me...nice Customer Service isn't it?...Hope Calin kicks some A** about this whole E-Upgrade thing. I am suspect to believe there are a lot of disgruntled E and SE's out there about this new program.

If you travel domestically/North America, there is now a lot more competition for upgrades and the check-in and gate agents will soon see that.

Just upgraded

Upgraded from LAX to YYZ no problem. As an elite, I was almost never able to use my red cert. 10 credits and I was in the front of the bus with General Hillier and Sugar Sammy! Off to Dallas next week and already upgraded for 6 credits. This looks great!

This is a very good point.

My threshold eUpgrade credits didn't appear until the Sunday morning following the week where my status miles passed 20k. I thought they'd have appeared right away once the miles posted but I checked every day and they only showed up Sunday morning.
