If the system confirmed your wife ahead of you, I'd say that's one effin smart system. You u/g yourself first instead of your wife!? You should thank them for looking out for you and covering your butt like this.

In that way I agree! But what if it did somebody else? If it upgraded me I would still offer it to her. Otherwise it a long trip and I ould hear about it for almost 2 weeks!

Thoughts from the lounge

E upgrades are working out ok so far. i am on the waitlist in YYZ after having flown in executive from YYJ. It will make me sad to go back to coach to YHZ.
This has been the worst experience to upgrade and check in. At one point I could only check in online for my YYZ-YHZ flight, but not for my YYJ to YYZ flight. I wound up driving to the airport and just checked in with a person. worked well.

For the guy above me upgrading the wife, I have found that by simply booking flights for me and my sig other on different days I am able to upgrade without her getting all angry.

Yes the new E-Credits system sucks if you wnat to do OLCI because if not all of your segments are confirmed and have one of the segments still on a waitlist the system doesn't allow to check-in even if you are within the 24 hour window for all flights. I think this needs to be corrected and quick!

I'm enjoying them so far.

Confirmed J weeks ago on booking.

<48 hrs, J>3, M>9. Cancelled. Rebooked. Upgrade.

e-Credits automatically returned.

Nice.

Was unsuccessful on AC7 Friday with the wait list and my 4 eUpgrades went back into my account right away. Was not shocked with not getting the upgrade as the flight was nearly zeroed out over 7 days out in both cabins. Managed to snag the last R on AC64 tomorrow after switching to that flight and paying the $50 change fee.

Long time lurker here (and AC:E)

Booked FRA-->YYZ as part of a longer itinerary through Lufthansa but on AC metal. Wasn't able to waitlist before I got the airport on my stopever since it wasn't an AC booking.

When I got to FRA, the Air Canada agents at the game knew exactly what they were doing with the eCredits, and told me I was the third person waiting for one of two open spots in J, but that several J spots hadn't checked in yet.

My upgrade cleared and all was smooth. Even enjoyed my first time in the pods. Life is good.

YYZ - FRA outbound confirmed...will see how return FRA - YYZ works out::rolleyes:

I'm in the same situation next month, and wonder if I will be able to request the upgrade at 4 days. I have the AC booking reference and can see the flights. The flights look the same as air canada flights, and have the usual 4 day icon. Has anyone tried upgrading a codeshare using the AC booking reference at the upgrade window?
thanks

I didn't have the AC reference number, and by the time I got it around the 24-hour mark i had just checked in on Lufthansa - the agent claimed she couldn't put me on the list since I had already checked in.

If you have the AC booking reference (I only had the LH), you might be okay to try, do let us know!

I've had bad luck using eUpgrades so far... For the first time, work had to pony up for Y-class fares from YYZ-BGI... but 6 days out, R/J=0

I then swapped out to an earlier flight where R=0 and J=3 to increase my chances... and then remembered my teachings from FT and swapped out to another flight that routed through YUL because R=0 and J=8... plus I got 300 extra status miles. I've been waitlisted... it's a bit odd - my YYZ-YUL leg cleared, but the YUL-BGI won't let me request online (had to ensure I was on the waitlist by calling in) and it said that I needed a "coupon"! I couldn't OLCI either... had to get my BP printed out, and she printed off a standby J-class coupon.

Odd process.

On the way back, R=0, J=3 - waitlisted.

Got to the gate and had my upgraded BP waiting for me. shame on me for not checking the plane before making my swaps since there are no pods!

Two weeks ago, I was on the last YYZ-YYC flight of the day, an E90, and it seemed about half the cabin was empty.

Same thing for me on YOW-LHR and LHR-YOW this week. Both flights had several empty seats in J. No problem getting an eUpgrade. To my knowledge there is no move to comping upgrades to fill those empty seats - I doubt we'll ever see this occur to any significant degree.

As for hoarding vs. spending, I think it all depends on where one started out the year. I selected 25 credits with the Top Tier choices, and then received the bonus 10 that was a one time offer due to all the confusion, and then received another 15 for the last threshold I passed in 2010, while I was still an SE. So I ended up with 50 credits to start the year on March 1, and am definitely in a spend mode this year.

However, next year will likely only start with 25, and will be a hoarder.

General rule: SE = spender, E = hoarder :D
