Sorry to say that my experience on this stuff is that, no--they're not.

Keep looking - you never know, things could change quite a bit between now and Wednesday. Still plenty of space available the night before @ 4:50 via YYZ.

that means my chances of changing flights the day before are almost 0...ahhh I dont like that stat....do you think if I go to the airport I would have a better chance?

melanie_g Jan 30, 2011 8:57 am

Thats what I am looking...keeping an eye out for the last flight of the night for Toronto. I am keeping my fingers cross that if I need to change it they will...like I said I dont mind paying the 75 per person but dont want to pay the fare difference...so hopefully when I call tomorrow I will have a better idea!!

Fingers cross everyone!!

Ps- this is why I hate travelling in the winter!!

summer there's thunderstorms and winter there's snowstorms.....not much difference.....

all i would suggest is wait for the advisory first.... perhaps its not as bad as it seems.... if i recall from a meteorology class, any forecast more than 72 hours ahead is "statistically" insignificant.

sometimes even with a snowstorm they can take off and land.... prob not as frequent thats all.

unless they know its a snowmaggondon, then they will issue an advisory wayyyy ahead!

Overnighting somewhere near YUL on Tuesday should be part of your plan. If the weather turns bad, try any routing to get to YUL on Tuesday. The YUL-LAS flight will likely operate, barring a total shutdown of YUL, because it is the only AC direct YUL-LAS flight of the day.

thats what I am thinking of asking to change just the YSJ to YUL part to the last flight the day before...if I ask that maybe they will be nice and do that since I might miss my connection if my flight leave later because of the snow. They should be happy that I ask this since then they wont have to rebook me after! :D

I hope you get what you want. Alas, the kind of unarguable logic you apply here is so often lost on AC.

Weather is called a forecast for a reason, if they listen to weather reports they be canceling flights all the time.

If they listen to passengers listening to weather reports their flights would be 1/3 empty

Far too often weather media exaggerates / sensationalize a situation, like they said a big chill this weekend in YYZ or kept on rolling a prediction 5-10cm worth of snow "later in the week" that never materializes

AC has their own meteorologists to forecast the operating conditions. They cannot be alarmed by every single weather event.

And we do live in canada after all.... 5-10cm of snow is nothing. May cause big delays leaving yul or yyz due to a whack of planes hitting the de-icing at once, but at the smaller airports I dont think it would be much of a problem.

Welcome to FT!

Personally, I would wait until Monday late to call them. As mentioned, Wednesday is too far away!

this is sooo true:

chances are 10-15 cm of snow is not gonna fall all day and if its spread all day, there is ample of time to space flights/crews out. if its concentrated to one period (ie. afternoon), then morning and evenings flights would not be heavily affected. if its morning, then evening would probably resume normal and if evening then they would not affect morning.

also stuff like jet streams and storm punches vary every day, gotta remember its prediction only and weather forecasters makes 2cm sound like a snow storm

Unless that spot is YVR or YYJ. :p

Of course the OP's routing doesn't involve either one of them.

just a few days ago the media was saying "big chill this weekend in Toronto -teens, -twenties with windchill".... thinking its so cold i decided not to go out. Stepped outside today and guess what, nice and toasty with the sun and hardly any wind

Rejuvenated Jan 30, 2011 3:45 pm

It's a nice toasty 11C right now in HK. Very comfortable!
