Transit Question?
I am going to travelling on Air Canada From hkg to syracuse in august. I would like to know about the transit ( Ac12 thru to Toronto and AC 1956 from tor to syracuse). I was wondering if i need to go to custom in yvr or toronto? Also when i arrive in toronto, will my baggage be tranferred to the US terminal? Thanx for any help |
Funny thing here....I'm not sure and this is my neck of the woods. I believe you clear customs in Toronto with your baggage then you must go to the connection desk on the arrivals level to check your bags for your Transboarder flight to the USA. We treat this flight as an international flight airside. Remember T1 is the international terminal and T2 is the domestic-transborder terminal in Toronto. This means you will need to transfer between the two Buildings. Regards YYZAC |
O NO!!! Not carrying the suitcases across to terminal 2???? There's gottabe automatic baggage tranfer!!!!!!!!
|
It's worse than that. You will have to hand carry your luggage (on the inter-terminal bus) to terminal 2, where you will have to clear US INS/customs with it. After you clear customs, you place your bags on a conveyor belt.
|
You cannot access a US Pre-flight inspection station (other than Vancouver) unless you have been cleared into Canada. (After all, if the US refuse to admit you, then what?)
Sterile transit facilities will only be available once Tnew is complete. Physically, there is no way to accomodate Transborder and International flights in the same building. |
This is waaay off topic but I was reminded of a piece of trivia by a colleague today - there is a tiny sterile area in Dorval (Montreal, YUL) where you can arrive and leave again without clearing Canadian Immigration. Why?

Maybe it's to handle flights to Cuba, where Aeroflot hands over passengers to Cubana?
|
Is there a shuttle bus to take me to US customs/ elevator? I remember where terminal 2 is and I had to walk up some stairs???

Shareholder,
No - it's cuter than that. Clue: it activates when the Air France afternoon flight from CDG arrives..... |

Bingo!!!! You win. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif For them it is a purely domestic flight which happens to stop and have an equipment change in Dorval. I love these little relics of empire.... |
This is ancient history, in airport terms.
Sterile transit is, at present, only legal (other than YVR) if the passengers leave with the aircraft on which they arrived. Otherwise, under both the Immigration Act and the Customs Act the carrier is obliged to present the passengers for inspection. Since AF's 747's do not fly on to St.-Pierre, this phenomenon is long since dead. It doesn't matter if the routing is domestic, if it uses an international transit point, it turns into an international flight under the Warsaw Convention. |
I've read this in the AC website regarding baggage control:
Connecting Flights For passengers with connecting flights, new features have been added for quick and easy movement between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2(US): Underground tunnel with moving sidewalks Frequent shuttle buses Worry-free baggage transfer between Terminals --HAS ANYONE TRIED CONNECTING FROM T 1 TO US TRIED THIS SERVICE YET? |

About the connection between terminals.. You will have to call AC if you want more information. [This message has been edited by NEFlyer (edited 07-12-2000).] |
