Good eats in CPT thread Jan-Mar08
Have scoured various parts of the board (destination, dining, reviews, LGBT) and can't find that thread with a string of nice restaurant suggestions for CPT :(
Can anyone pls point the way, or make new suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

I'd recommend Balthazar's in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Best steak I've ever had, and the deep fried onion blossoms are excellent. They also claim to offer the largest selection of wines by the glass. And when you see the wine list you can believe them. You can sit inside or outside.

I would recommend the Codfather in Camps Bay.

also recommend Balthazars, great food and wine, its also recently been refurbished which meant the last time i popped down there it was shut. All open now. Also in V&A Mitchells pub, if you miss real ale

I would highly recommend a drive out to Constantia Uitsig in Constantia, for lunch - about a 20 minute drive. Beautiful terrace and view of the vineyards/mountains, nice food, can only be in SA.
In CPT itself I'd recommend Wakame (good sea food, buzzy atmosphere), also Five Flies (more formal, restaurant is in lots of small rooms). I think the best steak in CPT is served by the Nelson's Eye (in Gardens at the side of the Mt Nelson). Informal and slightly abrupt service, but GREAT steak. And amazingly good value. And I second (third?) the previous recommendations of Codfather in Camps Bay. You can choose your own pieces of fish from the display (they do some meat as well). The grilled calamari is fabulous! |

Agree with LOM and Rose: The Codfather is the most memorable and likely best fish restaurant I've been to anywhere on the planet. I still remember the butterfish very fondly though everything I had there (went twice in a few days as it was so good) was excellent!
I felt that all the other restaurants I tried in Cape Town (top rated, recommended, etc) were somewhat disapointing but that might be as we get spoiled in London. |

PS Capricorn70, are you snowed in in YYZ tonight? |
I've been to Cape Town many times and have been to many restaurants but I always make a point of going to Baia in the Waterfront on my last night for a their Trio of Game - delicious^

Can anyone pls point the way, or make new suggestions? Thanks in advance! Anyway, my fave restaurants are Andiamo, Five Flies, The Nose, Tank, and Bukhara. Try searching on these names when search is working again and you should bring the thread up you want. |
Great tips - thanks everyone :) ^ Keep them coming tho, since I'll be here for 2 wks!
Rose - there's no snow in CPT - YAY!! |
Have just come back from Cape Town, would recommend Ginja and Jardines as the best 2 restaurants we went to. Both have an excellent level of service and some very interesting food choices. Ginja offers a taster menu which is a good option to sample a range of things off their menu. Both restaurants get very very busy and so it is advisable to book before you go otherwise you wont get a table. We also went to 95 Keerom (not great), the Five Flies (they got a bit flustered when busy) and the Savoy Cabbage (very good service and excellent food choice). Have a great time!!
