thanks a lot

The Harbour House restaurant in Kalk Bay has a nice setting right on the harbour and serves excellent, simple, fish dishes. The Twelve Apostles hotel has a restaurant overlooking the open ocean along the coast between Camps Bay and Hout Bay. Not sure how far out to want to travel - there are also restauarants overlooking the sea along the south coast (e.g. at Hermanus) and the west coast.

I agree withItalyBAGold.

It's very true the location is a bit dreary. But it is safe and central and there is lots of parking at night. But above all the food is well worth it. Was there again last night and I remain impressed. And it was full as usual so their rather dull location is not deterring the punters. Be aware, though, that portions are modest - this is a restauarant where a 3 course meal will leave you satiated with marvellous flavours but not bursting out of your jeans.

The 12 Apostles Hotel has a lovely, but expensive for SA, restaurant not too far outside of CT (just passed Camps Bay). The restaurant has lovely views of the ocean

Have just returned from a great holiday. Tried most of the game and also loved kingklip.
We didn't have a bad meal anywhere apart from African Cafe -and that wasn't bad but just that it was a set meal of various dishes to try. The mains were not anything I would have ordered. There was no entertainment when we were there and it was our most expensive meal by far.
Mama Afrika-loved this place. Food great and really cheap and entertainment wonderful. We went there twice. You have to book in advance.
Quayfour-popular to eat downstairs but went upstairs to a more formal menu. We also ate there twice. Beautifully cooked and presented.
Krugmanns Grill- superb food.
Karibu- great food but service left a lot to be desired.

Returned from South Africa last month and dined at Codfather and Nelson’s Eye based on this thread and can recommend both. We also found the restaurant at the Mount Nelson Hotel excellent. For less expensive sea food try one of the Ocean Basket restaurants. We ate at the one next to the Mount Nelson Hotel and had a lot of good fish for not very much money.

The best diner we had while in Africa was at the Prue Leith Restaurant. This out of the way restaurant is located between Johannesburg and Pretoria and is part of the Prue Leith Academy. Here is the site: http://www.prueleith.co.za/restaurant/index.html
