SA - Online Traveller Declaration

Seems there will be a new Online Traveller Declaration form for SA coming to a SA Airport near you soon.

"The new online South African Traveller Declaration system will be rolled out to all South African international airports commencing with OR Tambo International Airport in November 2022, followed by other international airports in the first quarter of 2023"

New Online Traveller Declaration.

Just in time for the Holiday (sorry, Festive) Season of travel. Sounds like SATSA is trying improve on DHA's stellar performance over unabridged birth certificates.

Gonna be fun!

No doubt this will follow a similar trajectory to the biometric capture project.

Be careful what you wish for! Biometric (fingerprint) capture was back at 1 out of 5 working exit immigration booths at ORT ten days ago, with a little sign proclaiming it as a 'trial'.

I was quite impressed that it picked up that I had already had my prints taken back when the last trial was, but then less impressed when a supervisor had to come over and clear the 'repeat' flag, which took a few minutes....

Anyone had experience of completing the Traveller Declaration form yet? It's voluntary while the pilots are happening. Just had a look at the website where one can complete the SAR Traveller declaration form, but I didn't get as far as clicking the submit button! Seemed relatively straight forward....

https://www.sars.gov.za/travellerdeclaration/

"The new online Traveller Declaration System will be introduced at all South African ports of entry with the phase 1 pilot of the system at King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) successfully implemented on 29 November 2022. The next phase for the implementation is planned at all airports, starting with Cape Town International Airport on 28 February 2023, O.R. Tambo International Airport on 23rd March 2023 and other airports in the second and third quarters of 2023, as well as land ports, namely Beit Bridge and Skilpadshek. The Cape Town Seaport is also in line to implement the system during the last quarter of 2023.The system will continue to be used on a voluntary basis during the pilot phases until further notice. We'll be arriving at JNB in the next six weeks. I was looking at the site linked in the preceding post by HGOLI. I don't see any instructions on when to complete the form. Meaning do you complete it within 72 hours of travel or anything like that.

This appears to be on-line customs declaration for use when bringing goods into or taking goods out of the country. I don't think it has much relevance to those travellers who have 'nothing to declare'.

We're arriving in JNB in a few days. Is this something that we need to do in advance?

slso, do we need to do anything for Covid? I suspect that we don't as there is nothing in TIMATIC or in the IATA travel centre.

Thanks

No forms required for recent JNB arrivals...

I just passed through JNB this past Wednesday. I had the SARS form email noting I completed it at the ready but no one asked for it.
