Is this any different or an update to the application logged end of last year?

AA are already ramping up co operation out of Ireland with EI . Good to see especially on the seasonal DFW route.

It's the same application as the one lodged at the end of last year, they're only reporting it now in the news.

They are? I couldn't find anything on this, other than the JV application.

No real change, as AA was always a interline partner and EI's and AA's systems could issue boarding cards etc, so ticketing was always there, but there are no code shares pend JV approval

EI crew routinely give terminal directions to both AA and UA gates during the pre arrival PA at SFO.

Quite a bit of stuff going on behind the scenes apparently. Going forward I would also see Nett fares which are used by tour operators and consolidators allowing a mix of AA BA EI which will be a great addition rather then just the IATA fares currently. It will give many options on routings and stopovers.

In a further question, Willie expanded on this. 'oneworld connect' is his preferred route because it only requires full commercial integration with three OW partners to go live. Whilst he didn't say this, the transatlantic JV gives him four straight away anyway (BA, AA, Finnair, IB). He feels that little EI would find the complexity of being a full member to be too much.

IT wise BA/AA/IB/AY would require fairly little investment

KLM and AF only just went into PreCheck despite being in a joint venture and alliance with Delta for years.

Don't get your hopes up....

The application for DOT approval for EI entry into the JBA with BA/AA seems to have gone quiet for almost a year now. Any ideas on when we might see developments?

As an Irishman living in the Caribbean (MBJ), I'm hoping to see better options for connecting at AA hubs on the East Cost with EI flights to DUB. Earning AA miles on EI flights would be a great improvement too.

Especially hoping that the JBA might trigger EI to revise the scheduling of their DUB-MIA flights. Currently it arrives into MIA at 8pm (having departed DUB at 3.45pm) and so has no chance to connect with any of AA's flights to Caribbean destinations.

There are so many US departures from DUB at lunchtime that Pre Clearance is already a disaster zone at that time of day ... so can't imagine they will bring forward another A330 departure until they do something about capacity

It is interesting how quickly Alaska have moved, declaring an intention to join oneworld in February this year and expecting to have joined by the end of the year.

https://www.oneworld.com/news/2020-0...-join-oneworld

It very much contrasts with Aer Lingus of whom in 2016 Willie Walsh said "The plan is Aer Lingus will rejoin the oneworld alliance" and "We don’t have a specific timeline. We’re working as quickly as we can".

https://eu.usatoday.com/story/travel...-ceo/94064688/

Nearly four years later and Aer Lingus still don't look likely to join oneworld anytime soon, or even at all.
