Man dies on board Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin

Gardaí are investigating an incident in which a man died on board an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin this evening.

The flight was diverted to Cork Airport after a 24-year-old man became agitated about an hour into the two hour journey.

It is reported that he bit another passenger before being restrained.

He subsequently became unwell and then fell unconscious.

The captain of the flight declared a medical emergency and diverted the plane to Cork Airport, where it landed at around 5.40pm this evening.

It is not clear when the man died but he was pronounced dead on board the airplane and his body remains there.

Sounds very strange. I wonder if he was restrained with a choke hold and died from that. Condolences to his family and loved ones.

Unlikey to be from a choke hold

It is understood the man was subdued and handcuffed, but some time later he collapsed and was attended to by a doctor who advised the captain he was in a critical condition.
Could be related to this.

Gardaí arrested a woman they believe was travelling with the man on suspicion of drug trafficking.

"Aer Lingus passenger who died after biting fellow traveller 'had £41,000 worth of cocaine in his stomach’ "
Must be very difficult to catch the mules.
