Early check in at full property

Early check in at full property
I have Gold status and I wanted to make a reservation for 2 nights at a property. The fist night is full. So I made a reservation for the 2nd night and was able to pay for early check in 6am.
I was wondering how they can fulfil the early check in when I arrive at 6am if it's full the night before ?
I guess they will either deny check in until later? Or are rooms on the first night not actually sold out just blocked ?
Does anyone have any insight in to such things?
