You see, this is where I personally feel that training has gone wrong.
What the concierge could have done is to call up to the lounge and passed on the information and that 'you would be coming up to check in'. That is, in my opinion, proactive action.
To simply snowball you on to the next staff and fash away responsibility isn't good training.

Yeah. That is what I am gonna include in my feedback to the hotel. I still love how Sofitel Singapore City Centre has their bell staff do the checking and guide you directly to the Lounge.

Personally, I just checked into Swissotel Merchant Court yesterday, the priority counter was staffed but there was a queue. So I went to the concierge to ask to be sent up to the lounge to check in. The staff said I had to identify myself with the staff at Front Office first. So what I did was instead of joining the queue at the side, I went directly to the Priority desk and queued behind the gentleman who was checking out. I would't say I cut queue but I pulled a George Clooney "Up In The Air" move :D

i had my bad experience at that hotel too. Joined the queue and even told the staff i will like to check in at the lounge. Apparently my request was not heard and she checked me in on the spot. Nothing much loss but agreed it was poor training.

i enjoyed my stay at the sofitel cc too. However i do not like the concept of going thru 2 sets of lift. The lounge could easily be accessed without any help from the first set of lifts which was easy.

But if more, I would definitely do as other posters mentioned : wait at the unstaffed priority counter and ask for someone to come here. The only time I had to face a very long line was at Ibis Style Paris CDG airport and by miracle the priority counter was staffed and nobody in line there !

i could not agree more which is why i tend to favour hotels with lounges. What i will like to see is the priority lanes actually being used by deserving members and for someone to enforce it.

Unfortunately, Singapore is visited by too much of people from certain countries which does not understand english well enough to know the priority lane or people who does not accept the social norm of queuing and enjoys cutting queue.

Of course when there is no queue, anyone should be able to use it.

Of the 3 lifts, one takes you to the third floor. If you were escorted, they should have taken you straight to that lift.
When you step out of that lift, the lounge door is immediately to your left.

I like how some other chains have a bunting and a carpet for that specific priority queue. Most people understand that as it's the same concept for airlines.

this was not what i experience at the novotel clark quay at Singapore where they have the carpet.
The signnage at such priority counters obviously does not work as we discussed.
The counter staff also seems happy to assist any Tom Dick and Harry.

Worth recalling what Accor in theory advises hotels to do:

So far, on my Accor hotel check in, I have no issue with LCAH priority lane.
Empty and the staff promptly handle my check in when I queue there
Maybe I'm lucky =D

At other chain, (SPG now become The One Program Who Haven't Got Name Yet) at some hotel, the staff did enforce the priority queue and ask non members to move to normal queue.
When everyone queueing at normal queue however, they keep priority lane unstaffed. the staff only comes out when someone queueing there.

At the hotel with Executive/Club Lounge, The staff straight send me upstairs for Lounge check in

Then on hotels without lounge, when even the priority queue is pretty long, the staff will ask me to wait at lobby sofas and they will get my ID and card to process the check in

This will be fantastic if all accor hotels enforce it. Well at least the premium brands will be nice.

I do find the check in with long lines during the opening of check in fron 2-3pm. Apart from then, unless the hotel is super busy, the queue is usually more manageable.
Of course as platinum members, we can check in early and avoid those timing. Though due to circumstances, sometimes this is not possible.

I feel the spg chains in Singapore also having the same problem. The premiem brands like st Regis of course provide a much better experience. The JW mariott will also invite guests to have a seat until a CSO is ready.

This post made me laugh. Aussies are very egalitarian so you’d be hung, drawn and quartered for queue jumping here no matter what your status. It’s funny watching Foreigners who do it.

Singaporeans go by meritocracy and live in quite a cut throat society. If we are entitled to something, I don't see why we should stop ourselves from getting the best possible deal.

I don't see anything wrong with the way Aussies live. I think Melbourne, Syndey and Perth are quite nice to be in to unwind. The only thing that baffles me is you guys are fickle with your leaders. How many already has it been for the last 10 years? *Just a little bit of banter, no harm intended.

You left out Adelaide (which I love). For that you will be condemned. :D
