Review Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache (10 Photos)

Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache

This hotel is right at the foot of Lyon Perrache train station. It is a kind of "historical" hotel in Lyon. I had just a one-night stay but a very good one.

I had booked a superior room and was upgraded promptly to Privilčge room. Drink voucher was given spontaneously and I redeem Champagne with it (1st time for me in a Mercure).

Room

The room was large, with a nice view of Fourvičre hill. I think it was recently renovated. Privilčge room comes with Nespresso machine, bluetooth speaker, bathrobe and slippers. The only criticism I could make is that I found the mattress a little bit too hard for my taste.

Overall

Overall, a good stay. Staff was very nice. Good Platinum treatment. Very convenient if you arrive by train at Perrache station. I would return without problem. I paid something like 160 EUR, which is not too bad for a big city and central location.

Looks like a very nice Mercure compared to the ones I've seen around Europe! Or maybe I'm just used to the majority of the ones I've seen being the run down ones scattered across the UK. Will be a good option if I ever make it to Lyon!

A very small one, indeed.
've just replaced my 11-inch laptop with a 14-inch one. It might be too big!

I just completed another stay. All good. I booked the entry level room and was upgraded one level + they added the bathrobe & slippers.

A very minimal welcome gift ! I don't remember what it was for my 1st stay and now that the pictures have disappeared...)

Staff was very nice. I had dinner one night at the hotel. Although the food was of good quality, one can regret the limited menu and relatively basic choice (burgers, steaks, salads) while you are in the capital of French gastronomy. But I am guessing this is one reason why they have a limited menu because most people go out in a good restaurant for dinner.

The building where the hotel is (Ch teau Perrache) has an interesting history. See here (in French) :

You can see some pictures of the outside and inside after the last renovation in 2015.

I will have a stay there in April. Is the entrance of the hotel inside the train station or outside ?

I am in the middle of a stay there. The building is nice, breakfast room is quite something and the staff is very good. I have a corner superior room, quite spacious with nice views. The room are recently renovated. But there are a few negatives to make it a truly good hotel. First the pillows are poor, not ergonomic and too soft. The mattress is really hard, just borderline for my taste. The desktop chair is crap. And one leaves a puddle of water after shower due to the cubicle design.

OT and a bit of a rant: arrival at LYS was something of a disappointment. The train station is a long walk away from T2, outside and on uncovered path. Then the Rhône Express is a glorified tramway and outrageously expensive at 16 euros one way, to add the ticket is not valid on the metro one needs to take to go to Perrache.
