Maybe we’ll try BT, looking at the rooftop restaurant picture, it seems really amazing.

About the lounge, even if we enjoy to drink sometimes, i already know the wine/spirits list won’t impress me...because the import taxes in Thailand

i asked on the Marriott forum about the Marriott lounges at Bangkok properties and i’ve been told there is low quality on alcoholic beverages also there

Yes, definitely try Moonbar on 61st floor while staying there. If you plan to have dinner there, booking a table in advance is a must. But if you only need drinks then just walk up and go for it, beware of the dress code though. Also, it's very crowded, SS rooftop bar is better in that regard.

I’m thinking to switch our December 2N stay at Sofitel sukhumvit (where we have already been 3 times, always fully satisfied) with Banyan Tree (where we have never been).

Where did you end up staying? Would be curious to hear about your point of view. Thx

Banyan Tree is VERY well priced for what folks are calling a Luxury hotel. About to go to Bangkok. What is the area that the hotel is in like?

I like the Kempinski area so wondering if I should move areas for a change of scenery.

BT has some good things going for it, but location is not one of them. Kempinski is in what I would consider city center = Siam, so no wonder you like that area. BT location is not a strong point.

Banyan Tree Bangkok is in an area that is more like a business district. Nothing much in walking distance for tourists, however, one could easily take a taxi to/from Siam Square area (where Kempinski is) to/from the hotel. With such short distance, taxi fare is low. Hotel itself is very good, and its roof top bar is very nice. Try it. :)

Well priced relative to other luxury hotels in the world? If so then I agree. In Bangkok it's usually a good idea to move up the luxury scale when considering a hotel relative to what one would do in other markets, due to the low cost of hotels generally speaking.

But if you are talking about BT being well priced relative to other luxury hotels in Bangkok, I am not sure I agree with this. Pricing seems fair, not unusual high nor unusually low. BT is more often than not priced above Athenee and Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, the two Luxury Collection Hotels in Bangkok. Those two compare very favorably to BT and even at a lower price more than 50% of the time.

I mean well priced for what one might spend on luxury hotels around the world.

I did look around and think it was in more of a business area or non touristy area but thought I'd check here with you experts. Thanks all.

Then yes, fully agreed! In Bangkok more often than not I choose higher brands for that reason such as Park Hyatt, Waldorf Astoria, St.Regis, Banyan Tree, rather than lower brands because in my experience you get more bang for the buck. In expensive cities I tend to do the other way around.

Any of those in tourist area? i did get Park Hyatt Presidential Suite in Siem Reap as good value for $

I'm off to check some of those out.

I never understood why Four Seasons in Hoi An is so dear.

All three of PH, WA, and StR are close to each other and not far from the city center so they all have a better location than BT.

Many of those packages found online are not a good fit for loyalty program elites who already have free breakfast and lounge access at BT Bangkok if Platinum or Diamond. This can be a good price for people without status, but otherwise it's a pre-covid price which is high relative to the competition at this point in time, and probably a fairly standard price if staying in 2022.

Be careful. Some of these Banyan Tree promotions do not offer any Accor stay credits. :)
