I had a similar idea many years ago while in Paris. Didn't have any idea where to go, so finally just went to a beauty salon in a big department store. Got probably the best cut of my life. Loved it.

Same theory applied as about chocolate. In both France and Italy, they care so much more about quality food that the cheap (nasty waxy stuff we sometimes run into in the US) just doesn't sell. Even in grocery stores one is safe buying house brands. It is great!

And I remember the person cutting my hair liked the whole idea that I'd chosen to do it in Paris. Her broken English and my only-courtesy-word French, but we still had a nice visit while she worked.
