Also, does CX charge these surcharges? If so, that could explain why ex-HKG xCIRnn fares remain closer to past amounts; although I would think you could buy ex-HKG xCIRnn from AA. Now I'm confused.
As discussed recently, the Circle fare increase is not directly related to fuel costs. Airlines still charge ever increasing amounts for fuel surcharges.
Rather, OW has decided the market for these fares can bear an increase (or perhaps revenue for other fares was suffering by a pricing anomaly) so they have put an increase through.
