Regardless of what they say, this is NOT how B6 operates -- and it separates them from the legacies in a very bad way.
B6 has a habit of occasionally canceling flights due to bad weather. Fair enough, all carriers have that problem. The issue is that when B6 cancels a flight, their route network is so thin (and their interline agreements so non-existent) that they may not be able to rebook you for several days. When the pax complains, they hand them their money back and tell them to find their own way home. That's insane.
I had a close friend of mine get stuck in the Bay Area when B6 canceled his flight to BOS. Because it was during peak summer last year, they couldn't rebook him for 3 days! They gave him back his money, and he ended up buying a F ticket on NW. Fortunately, he was traveling on business, and his company picked up the $1000 tab. But what happens if that is Ma and Pa Kettle? They can't pay that much, and they get stuck. Other airlines would reroute through different hubs, interline to other carriers, etc.
So saying that B6 gets pax from A to B, is not quite accurate.
