The flight attendant saw the situation and immediate moved me to another seat--in First Class. I call these people "space invaders".
For future reference, if this should happen again you should insist that the airline make a full seat available to you before you sit down. The phrase, "This is an IDB" should help. And under no circumstances should you allow another passenger to raise the arm rest. If they can't sit in their seat with the arm rest down, it is their problem, not yours.
