It depends on which airline issues the ticket.
As I mentioned a thousand years ago (or so it seems) in this same thread, the YQ surcharge is determined by the airline ISSUING the ticket, regardless of the airline operating the flight.
So, QF issuing a ticket on QF (081) stock on a BA flight will charge a QF YQ surcharge, rather than the BA YQ surcharge. And so on.
So all you need to do is find an airline which does not have a YQ surcharge AND WHICH ALSO has an interline agreement with BA, and get your BA ticket issued on THAT airlines ticket stock. Nice and easy way to avoid the YQ.
