Diamonds from different regions do have different qualities and characters, regardless of the fact that they are all made of carbon. It's no accident that South Africa and India have produced some of the finest and most spectacular diamonds in history; most diamonds from the Argyle mine in Australia, by contrast, are below gem-quality (the carbon in those diamonds is mostly of organic origin). Different geological processes that vary per region will, therefore, also produce different qualities and characters in diamonds.

(While diamonds are beautiful, I always am puzzled the lengths to which people go to acquire them. They are essentially no different from graphite, which actually is a more stable form of carbon than even diamond.)

But question... diamonds mined and sold in Brazil? How are they graded and by whom? I have always assumed certificates from the likes of GIA or HRD would be considered the (only) standard. Could diamonds in Brazil therefore not be considered as "trustworthy" (for lack of a better word). At least, the grade given in Brazil may differ to that in Europe, thus affecting the value (since a Brazilian gradation would probably not be accepted under European law).
