Coming from the airport I agree - but going back to the airport, it may be worth it to take the Airport Express for the convenience of the In-Town Check-In at Central.
Considering that, the 3-day tourist Octopus might be an option, though its free rides are limited to the MTR network. For the trams, buses or ferries, you would have to charge the card with additional $$. However, any funds you don't use are refundable and the $50 deposit on this card is refundable anytime, rather than several months after the first use.
