This is correct and I was lucky enough to have it happen to me (got the A380 suites on the SIN-SYD!).

However just to add - if you hold an F class seat on a flight which is now a 380 you cannot change that reservation. If you want to change dates you will be told that you hold an F ticket and can only change to another flight with F availability. So if you are lucky to score a 380 you have to commit to that flight on that day.
