I have recently realized that I have an addiction to buying upgrades at the airport with the self-service check-in machines and I have had a lot of opportunities to do so. For some reason, I am way too cheap to ever buy a first class ticket when I buy a ticket, but whenever I get to the airport, I have been getting a message recently that I can upgrade my flight to First for $90. It sounds so cheap when they say it this way, so I always end up purchasing the upgrade, however am I actually saving any money? This tactic by AA allowing customers to buy upgrades to first the day of the flight seems to really work well on me, so I wonder if it is generating a lot more revenue for them.
