I think the point is that Americans will stop importing things because they are too expensive, and others will go back to importing from the U.S. because its labor costs are now cheap. His belief is that economics will change the trend which you have identified.
The question is: to what extent will this happen, and how long will it take?
Thats the question, do we really see that happening? We're so entrenched in importing from other countries that I cant see it reversing any time soon.
