Don't know about the 'luggage sock', which looks like a shrink-wrap? The Hartmann covers are just clear plastic w/ a zipper. There's no need to tear anything off, you just unzip the cover and then unzip the suitcase to open. The cover isn't removed when you open your bag - just unzipped!
