What Bush doesn't realize is that the country is turning more and more into a place that imports stuff than actually exporting things. And as a company that mostly buys their supplies from outside of dollar land, I bet those five year figures don't look that good unless you can make it up with anything else.
I think the point is that Americans will stop importing things because they are too expensive, and others will go back to importing from the U.S. because its labor costs are now cheap. His belief is that economics will change the trend which you have identified.
The question is: to what extent will this happen, and how long will it take?
