My biggest question is: are the taxes/fees on AA redemptions for TATLs as ruinous as BA's? Because if they are lower, this will be a big bonus for me. I never use MFU, but instead use my BA miles mostly for TATL-and-beyond trips in economy. And frankly, I don't give a hoot whose economy seat I am in--they're both pretty lame. BA's fee structure for award seats is absolutely shocking and I would welcome the opportunity to use the miles on AA, if they charge less. I realize that the taxes will probably be the same, but so far, the US-based airlines have not gotten anywhere close to BA's extortionate fees and surcharges for awards.
