AA Flight 820 Cancelled....What to do?
Hi everyone,
Today I was supposed to take a day trip to Las Vegas to have dinner with a few friends and then return home late tonight. My routing was TPA-MIA-LAS-MIA-TPA. My flight from Tampa to Miami left at 1:05 pm and as we got close to Miami, the captain warned that MIA wasn't allowing any planes to land because of the weather so we stayed in a holding pattern around MIA for about 30 minutes. The pilot then announced that the weather was still bad, and that we were running out of fuel, so we had to divert back to TPA to refuel. When we landed at TPA, it was announced that after all this time wasted, the flight was canceled. We were advised to go to the ticket counters to get on another flight. The lines were extremely long at the counters with passengers trying to talk to an agent, so I called the 800 number and the agent on the phone said I was rebooked with a flight from TPA-DFW-LAS leaving Tampa at 7 pm. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work because I wouldn't get to LAS until 11 pm and I would be forced to stay at the airport until the first flight out the next day at 6 am. So I waited in line for a long time to talk to someone at the ticket counter, and I explained the situation to her, about how this was supposed to be a day trip, and how I didn't want to go through Dallas and have to come back the next morning. I didn't know what to do so I just asked her if she could rebook this same trip for me next week at the same times, which she did, and she printed the boarding passes for me. My question is, what am I actually entitled to in this situation? Can I get a refund for the flights since my plans were screwed up, and is there any other compensation that I am entitled to?
Thanks,
