I emailed them twice and here is a summary of the exchange (all hello and thank you and intro/outro deleted):

Hi.*I flew Air Canada from Toronto (YYZ) to Fort McMurray (YMM) on June 19 and back June 22. I received 1204 miles each way, but the actual distance between these two places is 1642 miles (http://gc.kls2.com/).*Can you adjust the mileage you have in your system?*Furthermore, I am positive that the fare classes I booked (A and L) yield 100% Mileage Plus miles.**Thank you.

Thank you for your e-mail.

I reviewed your Air Canada flight and ticket information and determined that your account was credited correctly.

Paid Air Canada flights worldwide qualify for mileage credit. Within Canada, Mileage Plus members traveling on discounted flights earn 50% of actual mileage, and members traveling in full-fare Economy Class earn actual mileage or a minimum of 500 miles.

For paid international flights, members in full-fare or discount Economy Class earn actual mileage or a minimum of 500 miles. Those in Business Class earn 125% of actual mileage.

These flights do count toward elite qualification, but do not earn elite bonuses.

I appreciate your taking the time to contact me.

So why did I only get 73% miles of the ACTUAL MILEAGE?
I flew in A and L class which both earn 100% miles according to http://www.united.com/page/article/0,,1180,00.html
These are listed as Economy and not Discount economy.

What I am saying is that you have the wrong distance (ACTUAL MILEAGE) in your system for YYZ-YMM. Please investigate.

Thank you for your reply.

You did earn 100% mileage credit from your Air Canada round trip flight from Toronto to Fort McMurray.

As of late October 2005, flight miles are calculated based on the mileage between airports instead of city to city. The change was implemented to achieve greater consistency between our partner airlines.

Thank you for choosing United and Mileage Plus.

I then called them now and they insist that their calculator is correct, they input the city pair and it spits out a mileage - Air Canada provides the city pair and booking class as I understood it.
