Had you gone up a fare class to D class (which currently costs £538+tax=£639), this buys you flexibility, as you can change these flights up until midnight the day before each departure for a £30 fee (well actually £29.70, but I don't know why), subject to D class being available, otherwise you pay the fare difference to C or J class in addition.
In 22 years we've never had to cancel a flight and always go for the cheapest option - bad move!!!!
