As far as whether or not you are charged for a change on an Aeroplan reward, it depends on whether you are in confirmed J for the leg you are trying to change. If you are confirmed, no charge, if you are not ocnfirmed, they will (supposedly) charge you. Whether or not you are confirmed J on other legs is imaterial.
