Although I am not a big JQ fan, and I do agree 100% about hoe well their brilliant (not) booking systems copes under sales (what other airline potentially sacrifices regular bookings, which come all to hard when a sale is on to get a bit of PR by offering ultra cheaps fares?), I must point out the common furphy about their flights fly to/from Avalon. Nearly all of their flights to major capitals do go to/from Avalon (that being Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide). These are really just flights servicing Geelong/Melbourne's western suburbs and inbound tourism to the Great Ocean Road. However flights to the bulk of the Melbourne market that Jetstar targets (ie to leisure destinations such as Gold Coast, Tasmania, Cairns, Darwin, Sunshine Coast) do fly from Tullamarine. Not to say I necessarily recommend them, as I have a personal prejudice to the way QF have screwed its Frequent Flyers by moving many many routes to Jetstar. But that's another story.
