Great advice there.

To expand on Jetstar and Tiger a bit:

1. Jetstar (Qantas owned) should be used as a last resort. Look up any thread on their "sales" to see how 'brilliant' their booking system is. More importantly, many of their flights fly into or out of Avalon airport, instead of Tullamarine Airport. Avalon Airport is about 50kms (five oh) out of Melbourne. My one and only flight with them was a nightmare full of delays and blatant lies. I won't go near them again.

2. Tiger (part-owned by Singapore Airlines) is new and don't have the on-time reputation of more established airlines. This is mostly due to a small fleet so a delay in any schedule can have a big ripple effect. They don't fly into or out of Sydney. To date they've had some brilliant sales, and their booking system holds up under stress.
