Just realized you said July 4th. The Gaslamp/Embarcadero area may be VERY crowded depending on what time you go as there are a couple different firework displays along the water. If you pick a restaurant, especially with a view, you may want to call now to see if you can even get in. Worse case you can roam Gaslamp and choose from many restaurants and watering holes.
