If you have plenty of time, you should consider going US40 and skiing Winter Park. It depends on how gung ho you are, but I have left west Denver and driven to Winter Park in the morning, skiied the day,then drove the rest of the way to Steamboat. Keeps you from killing a whole day and lets you see another mountain.
